TL;DR
Field Service Engineer (Robotics): Keeping intelligent robotic systems operational in live customer warehouse environments with an accent on hands-on servicing, preventive maintenance, and hardware/software troubleshooting. Focus on diagnosing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software issues, commissioning new deployments, and restoring uptime during critical field incidents.

Location: Redwood City, California; on-site with up to 50% travel to customer sites

Annual base salary: $80,000–$110,000 USD

What you will do

  • Perform hands-on repairs, preventive maintenance, component replacements, retrofits, and upgrades on production robotic systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical assemblies, pneumatics, sensors, electrical control circuits, and other physical hardware using electrical test equipment.
  • Use Linux/UNIX command-line tools, networking diagnostics, system logs, and debugging traces to resolve operational issues.
  • Lead hardware installation, software commissioning, testing, and calibration during new system deployments.
  • Manage spare parts, refurbish failed components, maintain ticket updates, and execute escalation playbooks to meet service-level targets.
  • Train customer operators and partners while documenting field issues and providing feedback to engineering.

Requirements

  • BS or AAS in robotics-related engineering, such as computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or mechatronics, or equivalent practical field service experience.
  • Hands-on experience repairing mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems in automated or industrial control environments.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, electrical test equipment, and diagnostic instruments such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Comfort navigating Linux/UNIX command-line interfaces, analyzing system logs, and performing basic network troubleshooting.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly with site operators and engineering teams and work effectively in high-stakes production environments.
  • Ability to work on-site in warehouse and industrial environments, including prolonged standing and walking, lifting components, and modified shifts during deployments or emergency repairs.

Nice to have

  • Experience with warehouse automation, industrial robotics, or material-handling equipment.
  • Basic scripting or troubleshooting with Python, Linux, or GitHub.
  • Knowledge of network engineering, IT infrastructure, or industrial communications.
  • Ability to read 3D CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks or NX.
  • Experience with Jira, Zendesk, Google Suite, or field service management tools.
