Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer (High-Power Lasers)

Location: Hawthorne, California, United States; full-time onsite presence five days per week

Salary: $120,000–$200,000 per year, plus stock options

What you will do

• Design and build complex opto-mechanical systems for advanced metal 3D printing systems.
• Integrate high-power lasers and high-speed camera solutions for closed-loop control.
• Create opto-mechanical drawings using GD&T standards and detailed documentation.
• Own precision alignment methods, procedures, and supporting software.
• Test and characterize optical performance, including equipment selection and acceptance criteria.
• Collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams on robust system architecture and physics-based interdependencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in optics, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of experience designing and developing opto-mechanical systems.
• CAD experience with GD&T and detailed opto-mechanical drawing documentation, including ISO 10110.
• Strong mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals.
• Experience delivering complex opto-mechanical systems and contributing at both systems and detailed design levels.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of opto-mechanical design experience and experience with high-power lasers in the tens to hundreds of watts range.
• Industrial optics experience, including semiconductor etching, laser cutting, or long-distance laser communication.
• Experience with opto-mechanical tolerancing, athermalization, STOP analysis, or optical simulation software such as Zemax or Code V.
• Hands-on alignment and assembly experience with complex optical systems.
• Knowledge of image and signal processing, motion control, kinematics, fluid systems, or thermal systems.
