TL;DR
Sr. Harness Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and delivering flight, GSE, and test harnesses that connect avionics, sensors, power systems, and vehicle subsystems with an accent on reliability, lightweight construction, manufacturability, and flight readiness. Focus on routed 3D CAD models, production drawings, electrical analyses, qualification testing, and resolving manufacturing non-conformances for planetary rover hardware.

Location: Hawthorne, California; onsite

Salary: $169,000–$187,000 per year

What you will do

  • Define and manage system-level harness schematics for flight hardware, testing, and ground support equipment with avionics engineers.
  • Maintain an aerospace-grade materials and components library covering connectors, backshells, shielding, wires, and cables.
  • Design routed 3D harness models and physical architectures within complex vehicle assemblies using aerospace standards for bend radii, strain relief, retention, isolation, and separation.
  • Create 2D flat harness drawings and formboards, support first-article builds, and resolve manufacturing non-conformances.
  • Perform voltage-drop, current-derating, and EMI/EMC shielding analyses.
  • Coordinate continuity, isolation, vibration, and thermal-cycling qualification tests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional wire harness design experience, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and interface documentation.
  • Experience using CAD and PLM systems to develop and release production drawings.
  • Experience troubleshooting harness issues and supporting root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Ability to work onsite in Hawthorne, California.

Nice to have

  • Experience in aerospace, launch vehicles, defense, robotics, automotive, or other complex technical applications.
  • Knowledge of aerospace-grade materials, components, and standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739.4, NASA-STD-8739.6, NASA-STD-6016, SAE AS22759, or J-STD-001.
  • Experience designing for high vibration, vacuum, thermal cycling, or EMI environments.
  • Experience with signal-integrity analysis for Ethernet, SpaceWire, or LVDS interfaces.
  • Experience with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, or E3 Zuken.
