Field Service Engineer (Houston / Katy, Texas)

Location: Hybrid role based in Houston/Katy, Texas, United States; travel to customer sites required 75% of the time.

Starting base salary: $100,000–$110,000 per year, with potential bonus and equity compensation.

What you will do

• Install, commission, operate, maintain, repair, upgrade, and service 3D printers and related equipment at customer sites.
• Assemble and test mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and optical sub-assemblies.
• Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to diagnose equipment issues using hand tools and test instruments.
• Perform calibration, preventative maintenance, parts replacement, and machine tuning to maintain equipment availability.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on complex troubleshooting, equipment upgrades, adjustments, and product improvements.
• Train customers, coworkers, and contract manufacturers while documenting activities, status updates, performance metrics, and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience operating and maintaining complex machinery in laboratory or manufacturing environments, including customer-facing field service, advanced equipment repair, and calibration.
• Ability to work independently at customer sites, troubleshoot thoroughly, communicate clearly, and collaborate with internal teams.
• Valid driver’s license, ability to rent vehicles with a personal credit card, and willingness to travel for extended periods and work long hours when required.
• Experience with electrical, mechanical, optical, software, or related technical systems, along with familiarity with OSHA and LOTO safety requirements.
• Ability to obtain authorization to work in government and medical facilities and pass background checks. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and use required personal protective equipment, including steel-toed boots, protective eyewear, respirators, and hearing protection.

Nice to have

• Startup experience or military service background.
• Active or previous security clearance.
• Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
• Familiarity with 3D additive manufacturing markets.
• CPR, AED, fire extinguisher, or emergency response team experience.
