TL;DR
Senior Process Engineer (PVD): Owning and optimizing thin-film deposition modules for superconducting quantum processors with an accent on process health, equipment qualification, and data-driven manufacturing improvement. Focus on developing scalable PVD processes, diagnosing process and tool drift, leading root-cause investigations, and shaping next-generation superconducting fabrication capabilities.

Location: Fremont, California, United States; on-site

Company

hirify.global develops superconducting quantum computers through interdisciplinary work across quantum computing, materials science, and semiconductor fabrication.

What you will do

  • Own the health and performance of production PVD deposition modules through SPC, process monitoring, and data analysis.
  • Develop, optimize, and qualify thin-film deposition processes for superconducting resonators, signal wiring, and interconnect structures.
  • Analyze process, metrology, and electrical characterization data to improve reproducibility and device performance.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions involving process, equipment, and materials issues.
  • Coordinate maintenance recovery and process qualification with facilities and equipment engineering.
  • Document processes, maintain standard operating procedures, train technicians, and contribute to technical roadmaps and cross-functional reviews.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with 4–6 years of relevant experience, or PhD with 2+ years of relevant industry, postdoctoral, or research experience.
  • Hands-on experience with PVD equipment, including sputtering, e-beam, or thermal evaporation, and semiconductor fabrication.
  • Direct, sustained experience processing 4-inch or 6-inch wafers is required.
  • Strong knowledge of vacuum systems, thin-film deposition, semiconductor fabrication, and superconducting or semiconductor device physics.
  • Experience with process development, DOE, engineering data analysis, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced R&D environment with changing priorities.

Nice to have

  • Experience qualifying new processes, tools, or materials for production or scaled R&D use.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or technicians and setting technical direction for a process area.
  • Experience with superconducting thin films, quantum technologies, or device fabrication.
  • Knowledge of thin-film characterization methods such as ellipsometry, AFM, SEM, XRR, or XRD.
  • Experience using JMP, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for statistical engineering analysis.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative, interdisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Work spans day-to-day manufacturing and next-generation superconducting technology development.
  • Opportunity to take increasing ownership of technical direction, equipment strategy, and process scalability.
  • Full-time employment in an R&D-focused environment.
