Senior SW Application Development Engineer – Beam Tuning and Controls (C/C++): Developing real-time machine-control software for ion-beam generation, monitoring beam uniformity and beam angles to meet semiconductor manufacturing process constraints with an accent on embedded systems, instrumentation interfaces, and closed-loop control. Focus on implementing signal processing, high-speed data acquisition, and reliable multi-platform control for complex electro-mechanical equipment.

Location: Beverly, MA, United States

U.S. base salary range: $141,913.76–$212,870.64 per year, plus eligibility for a team incentive bonus and comprehensive benefits for regular employees working 20+ hours per week.

Company

hirify.global develops semiconductor manufacturing technology, ion implantation systems, and related process expertise for semiconductor manufacturers worldwide.

What you will do

  • Develop production-quality real-time machine-control applications primarily in C and C++.
  • Build software for ion-beam generation, including monitoring and control of beam uniformity and beam angles.
  • Implement enhancements, bug fixes, instrumentation interfaces, and high-speed real-time data acquisition.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware engineers, process engineers, scientists, marketing, and product support to define requirements and resolve field issues.
  • Test software on implanter hardware and product simulators with the Software Quality Group.
  • Travel to domestic and international customer sites as needed.

Requirements

  • 8–10 years of experience developing, documenting, and testing software for semiconductor manufacturing equipment or comparable complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills and experience with embedded systems and real-time multitasked control using an RTOS such as Wind River VxWorks.
  • Experience controlling complex electro-mechanical hardware with distributed I/O, multi-tiered or multi-platform architectures, sensors, actuators, motors, encoders, and instrumentation interfaces.
  • Knowledge of control theory, mathematical modeling, single- and multivariable closed-loop control, signal processing, noise filtering, peak detection, and control-loop compensation.
  • Understanding of hardware/software partitioning, system performance, reliability, and high-speed data acquisition, processing, and transfer.
  • Minimum BS degree in a related engineering or physics discipline, strong communication skills, a team-oriented approach, and the ability to work in a clean-room environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ion-beam generation and control, plasma physics, or RF and microwave generators.
  • Experience with MKS Macro node or other Modbus controllers.
  • Experience with Ethernet TCP/IP and RS-232 communication interfaces.
  • MS or PhD in a related engineering or physics field.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work with semiconductor manufacturing equipment used by major chipmakers worldwide.
  • Collaborate across software, hardware, process engineering, science, product support, and quality teams.
  • Eligibility for the Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan.
  • Comprehensive benefits package for regular employees working 20 or more hours per week.
