Field Application Engineer - Automotive

Location: San Jose, California, United States; willing to travel up to 25%, mostly within California and Michigan.

Salary: $121,400–$166,900 annually.

What you will do

• Develop and present cross-functional system solutions, including concepts, silicon design, and validation plans aligned with customer needs.
• Identify opportunities, perform software bring-up and porting, build benches, and support custom pre-development.
• Review schematics and PCB designs and troubleshoot embedded hardware and software issues.
• Identify root causes and drive resolutions with internal teams, customers, and supply base partners.
• Manage cross-functional enterprise plans through on-time completion.
• Provide technical training to customers and NXP colleagues and give feedback to engineering and product development teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or an equivalent field.
• At least 5 years of development engineering or applications support experience with microcontroller-based embedded systems.
• Professional experience with C, C++, and embedded firmware development.
• Knowledge of SoC hardware interfaces including Ethernet, MIPI, SDIO, LPDDR3/4, Quad/Octal SPI, USB 2.0/3.0, UART, SPI, and I2C.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, analyze data and schematics, and develop effective solutions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presenting complex technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of ARM Cortex processors.
• Experience with SafeRTOS, FreeRTOS, or Zephyr.
• Knowledge of graphics and video subsystems and related software drivers.
• Experience in automotive electronics and software development or as a Field Application Engineer.
