Staff Software Engineer - Power Tools & Sports (C/C++)

Location: Raynham, Massachusetts, or Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, United States. The role is primarily based at one of these locations and may require up to 10% international travel.

Salary: $109,000–$174,900 annually, plus eligibility for performance-based bonuses and long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Serve as software technical lead for capital equipment and power tool development programs.
• Lead embedded software architecture, design, development, integration, verification, and validation for safety-critical medical devices.
• Develop production software in C, C++, and Python for embedded microcontroller and Linux-based systems.
• Translate product and system requirements into software architectures, detailed designs, and executable development plans.
• Lead board bring-up, hardware/software integration, low-level debugging, and data-driven root cause analysis.
• Coordinate internal contributors and external development partners while representing software engineering in design reviews, risk management, and regulatory activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience; equivalent advanced-degree experience is accepted.
• Strong C and C++ development experience, plus Python for automation, testing, tooling, or product features.
• Experience with embedded microcontrollers, bare-metal and RTOS development, embedded Linux, device drivers, services, and application software.
• Experience with board bring-up, hardware/software integration, low-level debugging, and protocols including SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and UDP.
• Experience delivering commercial products through regulated design-control environments, including FDA-regulated medical devices and IEC 62304 processes.
• Willingness to work in medical environments such as cadaver labs and operating rooms is required. Strong communication and experience managing external software partners are also required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of ISO 14971, medical-device cybersecurity, secure deployment, bootloaders, and firmware updates.
• Experience with STMicroelectronics or Texas Instruments microcontrollers, motor control, power tools, surgical equipment, imaging systems, or connected medical devices.
• Experience with software architecture methods, UML, design patterns, Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and static analysis.
• Ability to interpret electronic schematics and interface specifications, and experience developing Windows applications or Linux drivers.
