Principal Software Engineer (Python, AI)

Location: Budapest, Hungary; hybrid work model with onsite attendance at least 50% of the time for employees within commuting distance of a hirify.global office

What you will do

• Shape long-term engineering strategy and architectural direction across multiple teams and products.
• Lead the evolution of secure, scalable, reusable platform solutions using AWS, serverless, and microservice patterns.
• Run architectural discussions and design reviews, making trade-offs across performance, security, reliability, and maintainability.
• Own AI architecture decisions, including governance, monitoring, regulatory readiness, and appropriate use of AI.
• Educate engineering teams on model behavior, agentic systems, and responsible AI practices.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers while strengthening technical leadership and engineering standards.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years at Staff or Principal Engineer level in an organization with 100+ engineers.
• Experience leading complex platform or AI initiatives at scale as the primary technical decision-maker.
• Deep AWS expertise, including multi-account architectures, serverless trade-offs, Infrastructure as Code, observability, resilience, and security.
• Production experience with AI-enabled systems such as RAG pipelines, agentic frameworks, or LLM orchestration.
• Hands-on experience defining and implementing AI governance, including bias and privacy checks, audit-ready monitoring, and AI usage policies.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and backend platform components with Node.js and TypeScript, plus strong organization-level communication and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience building platform components or SDKs adopted by multiple product teams.
• Leadership in architecture forums, technical councils, or organization-wide standards bodies.
• Experience optimizing cost and performance for data- and AI-heavy workloads.
• Experience with legacy modernization, multi-region architecture, or platform consolidation.
• Public technical presence through talks, open-source contributions, or published writing.
