Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Chicago, IL; hybrid workplace

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems and services supporting web, mobile, and internal software products.
• Own initiatives end to end, from scoping and technical decisions through implementation and production delivery.
• Use AI-assisted development tools and help shape AI-enabled engineering practices across the team.
• Contribute across backend, infrastructure, and frontend work when needed.
• Collaborate with product, design, stakeholders, and engineering teams to define solutions and balance speed with quality.
• Influence architecture, review human- and AI-generated code, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with meaningful backend depth.
• Experience with APIs, data pipelines, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure.
• Strong systems design and software architecture fundamentals.
• Demonstrated daily experience with AI-assisted software development.
• Ability to contribute to frontend work using React, TypeScript, or equivalent technologies.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, project ownership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Go and AWS.
• Familiarity with Terraform, CloudFormation, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience defining AI development practices or building production AI/ML features such as RAG systems, LLM integrations, or chatbots.
• Background in consumer products or food-tech.
