Avionics Systems Engineer – Flight Safety Systems (FTS / AFSS) (Aerospace): Designing, integrating, testing, and certifying Flight Termination System hardware and software for advanced flight vehicles with an accent on range safety, vehicle interfaces, and flight readiness. Focus on architecting high-criticality avionics, planning qualification and acceptance testing, coordinating with flight-test ranges and regulatory authorities, and supporting safe flight operations.

What you will do

  • Own the full lifecycle of Flight Termination System hardware and software, from design and procurement through testing, integration, and flight operations.
  • Define the top-level FTS architecture, including mechanical and electrical hardware, concepts of operations, and vehicle interfaces.
  • Coordinate FTS interfaces with avionics, fluid, structural, and flight-test range systems.
  • Plan and execute qualification, acceptance, and high-level integration testing.
  • Create operational procedures and support flight safety analysis for safe flight operations.
  • Collaborate with range safety authorities, leadership, and flight operations on requirements, documentation, and system readiness.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of aerospace experience with high-criticality hardware.
  • Degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with electrical and/or mechanical hardware design.
  • Experience with avionics systems, hardware integration, and test planning and execution.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Must satisfy U.S. export control compliance requirements, including being a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Nice to have

  • Experience with range safety and RCC-319.
  • Experience developing aircraft prototypes, releasing hardware designs, preparing work instructions, and executing test plans.
  • Knowledge of RF system design, including link budgets, antenna design, and antenna placement.
  • Experience with environmental testing, technical risk management, government agencies, or Autonomous Flight Safety Systems.
  • Experience architecting avionics systems using COTS and in-house hardware.
