Systems & Firmware Validation Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Location: Dayton, Ohio, United States; in-office. Travel requirement: 10%.

Salary: $74,000–$101,800 per year.

What you will do

• Architect and develop specialized test hardware, including custom fixtures, loadboxes, and harnesses.
• Execute EVT, DVT, and PVT validation phases for embedded firmware and complex systems.
• Use CAN/J1939 protocols and diagnostic tools to monitor and analyze real-time device performance.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot firmware-to-hardware integration issues.
• Create and maintain DVP&R documentation and validation summaries supporting product readiness.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional lab validation and product testing experience focused on embedded systems.
• Experience developing test automation scripts with Python, Lua, or MATLAB.
• Strong knowledge of firmware testing methodologies and protocol-level troubleshooting with J1939/CAN.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.

Nice to have

• Experience validating heavy machinery or automotive electronics.
• Advanced knowledge of GNSS, optical, or sonic positioning technologies.
• Experience managing complex lab infrastructure and creating harnesses.
