Staff Functional QA Engineer

Location: Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA — HQ; hybrid work with up to 10% travel to client and customer locations

Salary: $125,000–$171,600 per year, plus benefits

What you will do

• Lead test planning, scope definition, risk assessment, and results reporting.
• Design and execute integration, functional workflow, regression, simulation, virtualization, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
• Triage defects across software, services, APIs, messaging, asynchronous architectures, and test infrastructure.
• Validate contracts, data flows, latency, resiliency, and system behavior under load.
• Partner with engineering, automation, and product teams to own release quality and readiness.
• Mentor peers and improve test architecture, automation coverage, playbooks, tooling, and quality practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least five years of experience in software QA, systems validation, or integration testing.
• Hands-on experience testing distributed systems and debugging APIs, messaging, or asynchronous architectures.
• Experience with simulation, emulation, or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
• Scripting experience for automated validation or coverage expansion using C#, Python, Bash, or similar tools.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client and customer locations; hybrid work at the Wilmington, MA headquarters is expected.

Nice to have

• Experience with test automation frameworks and CI integration.
• Knowledge of Linux, Ansible, Kubernetes, cloud-based architectures, or hybrid systems.
• Experience with Kafka, SQL, RabbitMQ, data processing, or persistence.
• Background in mentoring and driving testing best practices across teams.
