Staff QA Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Location: Durban, South Africa. Applicants must currently and legally reside and work in South Africa; international relocation and remote work outside the hiring country are not considered.

What you will do

• Collaborate with Agile team members to understand requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Define test plans, test cases, and testing strategies for software, firmware, hardware, and integrated systems.
• Lead QA activities across multiple projects and provide technical guidance to QA and development teams.
• Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and regression testing.
• Perform manual and automated testing for functionality, performance, reliability, and release readiness.
• Reproduce and troubleshoot complex defects, oversee QA work, and mentor QA engineers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as a Software Quality Engineer.
• Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools, and techniques, including JIRA and TestRail.
• Experience with functional, automated, and regression testing.
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies, SDLC, STLC, and testing practices from project definition through post-deployment documentation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Current legal authorization to reside and work in South Africa; immigration sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• ISTQB CTFL certification.
• Embedded systems and firmware testing experience.
• Experience testing Windows applications, web applications, REST APIs, and integrated systems.
• Experience with CI/CD, containerization, virtual machines, and scripting in Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript.
• Knowledge of networking protocols and security or access-control systems, including DevSecOps tools such as Snyk and ZAProxy.
