Controls Software Test Engineer (Robotics): Building automated test suites, hardware-in-the-loop infrastructure, and software simulators for robotic controls and industrial integrations with an accent on PLCs, fieldbus protocols, I/O, and safety systems. Focus on validating real-time hardware-software integrations, simulating factory-floor equipment, and preventing defects through maintainable test automation.

Location: On-site in Glen Cove, New York, five days per week at the robotics factory

Salary: $110,000–$150,000 per year, plus equity and employee stock options

Company

Builds robotics software, user-facing applications, and APIs that make real-world automation more accessible across industries.

What you will do

  • Build and own automated test suites and hardware-in-the-loop infrastructure for controls and industrial integrations.
  • Test PLC, HMI, fieldbus, digital I/O, and analog I/O behavior across Modbus TCP/RTU, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, and PROFINET.
  • Develop software simulators and mocks for PLCs, fieldbus devices, conveyors, grippers, and safety hardware.
  • Integrate e-stops, safety PLCs, and light curtains into automated release validation.
  • Validate integrations in real time with software and applications engineers and resolve defects during development.
  • Hand off maintainable test code and fixtures to systems test engineers and technicians, and review designs and pull requests for testability and protocol compliance.

Requirements

  • 4+ years, or equivalent experience, writing production-quality software in Python, C, C++, or TypeScript.
  • Deep experience with test automation and CI/CD using pytest, Playwright, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on PLC programming and industrial automation experience with Modbus TCP/RTU, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, PROFINET, and digital/analog I/O.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, work with 24V digital I/O and 4–20mA analog signals, use test equipment, and build or wire test fixtures and PLC cabinets.
  • Experience debugging networked, distributed, and real-time systems across software and hardware.
  • Ability to work on-site at the Glen Cove robotics factory five days per week.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Beckhoff PLC platforms and structured text.
  • Experience with ROS2, Docker, or robotics software stacks.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop or system-level test automation at scale.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13849 or ANSI/RIA 15.06 industrial safety standards.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with compensation adjusted for seniority and skill level.
  • Employee stock options for full-time employees.
  • Paid time off.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) for regular full-time employees.
