TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer, Space Based Interceptors (I - III) (Hypersonic Aerospace Hardware): Designing and developing mechanical structures, flight hardware, and integrated assemblies for space-based interceptors, kill vehicles, and hypersonic flight vehicles with an accent on high-g loading, aerodynamic and thermal environments, and precision sensor integration. Focus on building CAD-defined structural systems, integrating propulsion and guidance hardware, applying thermal protection materials, and qualifying hardware through analysis, design reviews, and environmental testing.

Location: Fully onsite in Denver, Colorado, or Long Beach, California; candidates must be based in or able to commute to the selected office daily.

Base salary: $80,000–$165,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for U.S. and allied space-defense missions.

What you will do

  • Design, analyze, and optimize mechanical structures and assemblies for interceptor systems, kill vehicles, and hypersonic flight vehicles.
  • Develop flight vehicle structural systems from concept studies and prototyping through hardware delivery.
  • Design airframe structures for high-dynamic-pressure, high-g, vibration, shock, hypersonic, and re-entry environments.
  • Package and integrate GN&C hardware, seeker assemblies, sensors, propulsion interfaces, and thermal protection systems.
  • Create 3D CAD models, piece-part drawings, assembly drawings, and GD&T documentation using NX and/or SolidWorks.
  • Support PDR, CDR, and TRR design reviews, structural and environmental testing, configuration management, and PLM/MES documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 1–4 years of professional experience in mechanical design, preferably in space-based interceptors, hypersonic systems, defense aerospace, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD modeling and drawing creation in NX and/or SolidWorks.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, structural and mechanical design principles, load paths, joints, and materials selection.
  • Familiarity with sensor and seeker packaging, vibration isolation, optical alignment, EMI management, high-temperature materials, or thermal protection systems.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR.

Nice to have

  • Experience with hypersonic flight hardware, interceptor or re-entry systems, propulsion integration, or spacecraft and satellite mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with FEA or structural analysis tools such as NASTRAN or Ansys.
  • Knowledge of aerospace and defense standards including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1540, MIL-SPEC, or AIAA S-110.
  • Experience with PLM tools such as Teamcenter or Windchill and full hardware lifecycle development.
  • Active U.S. security clearance or ability and willingness to obtain one.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on autonomous spacecraft, payloads, and space-based interceptor hardware for demanding defense aerospace programs.
  • Collaborate across mechanical, propulsion, guidance, sensor, and test disciplines.
  • Health, dental, vision, HRA/HSA options, paid time off, and paid holidays.
  • 401(k) and parental leave.
  • Equity compensation.
