Location: Onsite opportunities in Alameda, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico; or Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Work involves laboratory, manufacturing, field, and office environments. The facility handles Department of Energy Part 810-controlled information; candidates must be authorized to access it.
Hourly compensation: $28–$32 for employees working onsite at the Alameda, California headquarters. The rate may vary by work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills.

What you will do
- Collaborate with engineering teams on research, technology development, and technical projects across salt chemistry, fuels, and materials.
- Apply engineering principles in laboratory, manufacturing, and field environments.
- Support experimental design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and technical documentation.
- Contribute to process design, process development, process safety, operations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with the development, evaluation, troubleshooting, maintenance, calibration, and improvement of laboratory and testing equipment.
- Present project objectives, technical work, and results to peers, mentors, and leadership at the end of the internship.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of basic engineering principles, scientific methods, experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
- Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, AutoCAD, Excel, or similar engineering and programming tools.
- Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on multidisciplinary assignments in a fast-paced research and development environment.
- Ability to comply with hazardous-material handling, PPE, laboratory safety, and applicable Department of Energy Part 810 export-control requirements.
