TL;DR
Gear Process Engineer (Automotive Manufacturing): Designing, implementing, and optimizing automotive manufacturing processes, CNC programs, tooling, layouts, and automation solutions with an accent on lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, process validation, and cost savings. Focus on resolving production and quality issues, coordinating APQP launches and equipment moves, and maintaining PFMEA, Control Plans, and Poka-Yoke systems.

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States; onsite manufacturing role with work on second or third shifts, weekends, and off shifts as required.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and optimize production workflows, layouts, equipment utilization, and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and maintain CNC programs for pinion and ring blanking, including cutting-tool and work-holding selection and design.
  • Provide technical support for process, machine, tooling, equipment, and quality issues on the shop floor.
  • Apply lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, Poka-Yoke, and automation solutions to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and achieve cost savings.
  • Coordinate tooling, process validation, documentation, APQP product launches, pre-production material flow, and equipment moves.
  • Prepare estimates, obtain vendor quotations, coordinate machine run-offs, and support manufacturing strategy and capacity analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of applicable experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing systems, process engineering, and industrial automation.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions in a production environment.
  • Experience managing multiple engineering projects, coordinating resources, and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with production, quality, maintenance, and leadership teams.
