TL;DR
Manufacturing Process Engineer (Battery Manufacturing): Developing and continuously improving rechargeable energy storage system manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, and standardized work from prototype builds through steady-state production with an accent on battery assembly, testing, process validation, and production launch. Focus on troubleshooting high-voltage and leak-test failures, improving safety, quality, throughput, and capability, and driving lean manufacturing and root-cause corrective actions.

Location: Onsite in Detroit, Michigan, with full-time reporting to the Detroit/Hamtramck plant. The role is not eligible for relocation benefits, and relocation costs are the candidate's responsibility.

Company

hirify.global develops automotive products and advanced propulsion technologies with a focus on zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.

What you will do

  • Develop and optimize rechargeable energy storage system assembly, testing, inspection, and material-flow processes.
  • Define process requirements, equipment concepts, tooling, layouts, cycle times, and production flows.
  • Support product and process launches from concept and prototype builds through equipment installation, validation, production launch, and steady-state manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, including test-system failures, leak-test concerns, high-voltage rejects, thermal-imaging issues, traceability problems, and error-proofing failures.
  • Maintain PFMEA, Process Control Plans, standardized work, operator instructions, process documentation, and launch deliverables.
  • Drive continuous improvement through lean manufacturing, GMS, 5S, error-proofing, waste elimination, OEE, throughput improvement, and structured problem solving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Chemical, or a related Engineering field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience in manufacturing, process engineering, equipment engineering, battery manufacturing, automotive, or another highly regulated production environment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability, process capability, production launches, lean manufacturing, PFMEA, Process Control Plans, and error-proofing.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems, implement practical solutions, and collaborate with operations, quality, maintenance, controls, suppliers, contractors, and engineering teams.
  • Ability to work safely in a plant environment and comply with high-voltage, chemical, hazardous-material, ergonomic, and environmental requirements.
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role; candidates must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Experience with rechargeable energy storage systems, lithium-ion battery modules or packs, high-voltage systems, battery testing, leak testing, thermal imaging, or electrical safety.
  • Experience with automated assembly and test equipment, robotics, PLCs, vision systems, traceability, MES, or data-acquisition systems.
  • Experience with torque monitoring, dispense systems, welding, cyclers, hipot systems, thermal cameras, or automated inspection equipment.
  • Experience with Teamcenter, Delmia, process simulation, plant-floor dashboards, manufacturing analytics, root-cause analysis, capability studies, OEE, or scrap reduction.
  • Professional Engineer, Lean, Six Sigma, Red X, or similar certification.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time onsite work in a plant manufacturing environment.
  • Benefits and total rewards supporting employee well-being at work and at home.
  • Inclusive workplace focused on belonging, safety, and meaningful change.
  • Applicants may be required to complete role-related assessments or pre-employment screening.

Hiring process
