Location: Onsite in Alameda, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico; or Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Some travel may be required, up to 20%, to company sites, suppliers, fabrication shops, test facilities, or installation sites. The role may require schedule flexibility and extended hours during critical project milestones.
Salary: $140,600–$165,400 per year for employees working onsite at the Alameda, California headquarters.

What you will do
- Own the design scope for reactor vessel components, interfaces, and hardware packages.
- Develop reactor vessel requirements, design bases, interface definitions, verification plans, drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
- Lead mechanical design, structural and thermal analyses, pressure-boundary evaluations, and design integration reviews.
- Coordinate spatial, thermal, structural, and functional interfaces with nuclear design, thermal hydraulics, materials, safety analysis, manufacturing, plant integration, and instrumentation and controls teams.
- Support fabrication, inspection, installation, testing, maintenance, supplier oversight, acceptance activities, and resolution of technical issues.
- Maintain configuration and technical change records, assess risks, participate in audits and failure analyses, and mentor junior engineers and interns.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design, nuclear component design, pressure vessel design, high-temperature systems, structural components, or complex hardware development.
- Independent experience leading the design, analysis, fabrication support, testing, or qualification of pressure vessels, reactor vessels, or other safety-significant mechanical systems.
- Experience with engineering documentation, mechanical drawings, specifications, calculations, design reports, test plans, and technical reports.
- Knowledge of mechanical design, structural mechanics, pressure-boundary design, thermal expansion, bolted joints, weldments, high-temperature degradation, creep, fatigue, and creep-fatigue.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AVEVA, engineering analysis methods, FEA, system safety analysis, configuration management, and interface control.
Nice to have
- Experience with ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections VIII or III, ANSI, ASTM, or ASME Y14.5.
- Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly, dimensional inspection, GD&T, welding, machining, or fabrication of large metallic components.
- Experience with reactor component lifecycle management, equipment qualification, inspection, testing, maintenance, or supplier oversight.
