Production Weld Fitter (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Chatsworth, California, United States. Must meet U.S. person requirements under ITAR and EAR regulations.

What you will do

• Fit, align, clamp, and tack weld thin-wall tanks, rings, skins, brackets, and structural assemblies.
• Prepare parts and assemblies for GTAW, laser welding, and robotic welding using drawings, travelers, work instructions, and weld procedures.
• Read engineering drawings, GD&T, weld symbols, WPS documents, travelers, and inspection requirements.
• Perform precision layout, measurement, trimming, edge preparation, joint preparation, and fit-up verification.
• Set up fixtures, jigs, clamps, tooling, purge systems, and robotic welding cells while controlling alignment, distortion, and cleanliness.
• Support welders, manufacturing engineers, and quality personnel with first-article builds, fixture adjustments, process improvements, documentation, and production records.

Requirements

• U.S. person status meeting ITAR/EAR requirements.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of hands-on GTAW experience in aerospace, defense, or another high-specification environment.
• Ability to qualify to AWS D17.1 Class A/B requirements and pass required visual acuity tests.
• Proficiency reading prints and GD&T and using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and weld gauges.
• Ability to perform detailed hands-on work under PPE, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• Experience with aerospace-grade aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, nickel alloys, pressure vessels, tanks, or structural assemblies.
• Experience with AWS D17.1, robotic or laser welding, purge setups, and contamination control.
• Welding trade certificate, apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on training.
• Experience in ISO 9001 or AS9100 manufacturing environments and with first-article or low-rate production.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and shop safety practices.
