Welder (Fusion Energy)

Location: On-site in Devens, Massachusetts, United States; weekday or weekend shifts available, with occasional travel and required nights, weekends, or on-call work.

Salary: $30–$41 per hour, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Perform and inspect welding on large metallic structures, tooling, and components for superconducting magnets.
• Set up welding processes, select equipment and methods, and perform hand, semi-automated, and advanced welding in multiple positions.
• Read technical drawings, take measurements, and plan project layouts before cutting and joining materials.
• Provide manufacturability feedback to design engineers on weld geometries and material selection.
• Conduct welding equipment qualification trials and troubleshoot manufacturing discrepancies.
• Follow safety procedures while working around heat, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.

Requirements

• 5+ years of welding experience with large structural systems, tooling, and related manufacturing processes.
• Documented training or certification in blueprint reading and fabrication, GMAW, GTAW, and advanced SMAW.
• Experience producing welds that meet industry-standard requirements.
• Experience welding stainless steel and using GTAW to weld copper.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and perform extended periods of standing, sitting, stooping, and typing.
• Ability to work on-site in the United States and willingness to work required nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.

Nice to have

• Welding experience in pressure vessel, aerospace, or nuclear applications.
• Experience with electron beam, laser, mechanized, or automated welding equipment.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation.
• Strong attention to detail, independent work skills, mathematical understanding, and project or time management experience.
