Python Software Engineer

Location: Cape Town, South Africa; remote and hybrid working options available

Mr D is a division of the Takealot Group building software for South African ecommerce, food delivery, and related customer experiences.

What you will do

• Architect and develop backend systems handling millions of transactions.
• Design and maintain secure, scalable APIs.
• Build distributed backend systems using stateless architectures.
• Work with event streaming technologies and relational and non-relational datastores.
• Develop containerized microservices and cloud-native solutions.
• Solve complex technical challenges while improving system reliability and efficiency.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, object-oriented concepts, data structures, and algorithms.
• Expertise in Python and Unix/Linux environments.
• Experience with distributed systems, stateless architectures, secure API design, event streaming, and relational and non-relational datastores.
• Experience with containerization and cloud service providers.

Nice to have

• AWS cloud technologies.
• Git version control.
• PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, or Redis.
• Kafka for event streaming.
• Docker and Kubernetes.
