Software Engineer (Scala)

Location: South Africa; hybrid working model.

What you will do

• Develop and optimize systems managing parcel and food delivery across South Africa.
• Build and maintain microservices supporting the hirify.global Group delivery network.
• Work with event-driven architecture and graph databases to model logistics networks.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to improve delivery efficiency.
• Research and define solutions for complex logistics-domain problems.
• Own solutions end to end while working predominantly with open-source platforms.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of experience writing robust, efficient production code.
• Experience with SQL database systems and Linux environments.
• Proficiency in a strongly typed language such as Scala, Java, or C#.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, proactive, and solutions-oriented skills.
• Willingness to learn, teach others, and diversify language skills.

Nice to have

• Scala, Play Framework, JVM, microservices architecture, or Postgres experience.
• Google Pub/Sub, Google Cloud Platform, Graphite, Grafana, or Git experience.
