TL;DR
Reliability Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and executing reliability strategies for spacecraft flight systems and orbital station components with an accent on failure analysis, reliability prediction, and risk reduction. Focus on FMEA, fault tree analysis, reliability block diagrams, statistical modeling, and supporting design verification for human spaceflight systems.

Location: Houston, United States. Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required, along with completion of a U.S. government background investigation. Evening and weekend work may be required for critical project milestones.

What you will do

  • Plan and implement reliability engineering strategies, requirements, and program growth for spacecraft and orbital station systems.
  • Conduct system, assembly, and component-level FMEA and criticality analyses.
  • Develop reliability models and predictions, including MTBF and MTTF, using analysis and accelerated aging tests.
  • Perform fault tree, reliability block, and functional block diagram analyses for mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical designs.
  • Analyze flight hardware failure data and identify critical items requiring verification and reliability improvement strategies.
  • Collaborate with design, safety, system, and subsystem engineers during design reviews, testing, documentation, and customer presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of direct spacecraft reliability experience, including statistical process control, modeling, and prediction.
  • Experience with spacecraft, space vehicle, and component reliability predictions and flight hardware failure data analysis.
  • Broad knowledge of space systems engineering, space vehicle design, system architecture, ground systems, payloads, and mission operations.
  • Detailed knowledge of spaceflight subsystems and functions; human spaceflight experience is preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency and eligibility for a U.S. government background investigation are required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SAPHIRE or PTC Windchill Quality Solutions.
  • Experience with spacecraft probability strategic assessments.
  • Experience supporting NASA human spaceflight programs.
