TL;DR
Reliability, Maintainability, and Safety Engineer (Aerospace): Ensuring Lunar Systems, space systems, launch vehicles, and ground operations meet regulatory requirements and safety standards with an accent on hazard analysis, reliability assessment, and launch-range compliance. Focus on performing FMEA, FTA, and RCA, integrating safety requirements into designs, and developing maintenance strategies that improve system reliability and reduce downtime.

Location: Hybrid in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Applicants must be a U.S. Person and eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR.

What you will do

  • Manage compliance with safety, reliability, launch-license, range-safety, and technical regulations.
  • Perform hazard identification and risk assessments using FMEA and FTA.
  • Assess system and component reliability, identify failure modes, and develop reliability improvements.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to incorporate safety and reliability requirements into designs and modifications.
  • Investigate equipment failures through root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop proactive maintenance strategies to reduce downtime and optimize asset performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, systems engineering, robotics, or a related field.
  • At least four years of relevant professional engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and safety analysis methodologies.
  • Proficiency in FMEA, FTA, RCA, reliability techniques, computer-aided design tools, reliability prediction software, and data analysis.
  • Experience with 14 CFR Part 450, AFSPCMAN 91-710, and/or ARP4761.
  • Experience working with the FAA, FCC, or U.S. Air Force/Space Force on range compliance. U.S. Person status and eligibility for required export authorizations are mandatory.

Nice to have

  • Experience with space launch vehicle systems, flight test programs, or operational space missions.
  • Familiarity with launch-range operations and safety systems at governmental and private spaceports.
