TL;DR

Director of Manufacturing (Additive Manufacturing): Leading additive production, post-processing, materials management, quality control, maintenance, and scalable manufacturing operations with an accent on operational excellence, regulatory readiness, and the transition from prototype to full production. Focus on scaling metal and polymer AM processes, building production capacity and KPIs, leading multifunctional teams, and implementing Lean, Six Sigma, automation, and new equipment.

Location: Fremont, California, United States; hybrid workplace

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 annual base salary, with potential bonus and equity compensation.

What you will do

Lead daily manufacturing operations across additive printing, post-processing, machining, finishing, assembly, materials, maintenance, and quality control.
Develop manufacturing strategy, capacity models, production plans, operating metrics, and budgets to support growth.
Oversee metal and polymer additive manufacturing processes, machine uptime, print quality, calibration, and process stability.
Build and mentor teams of supervisors, technicians, operators, and support staff, including workforce planning, hiring, and training.
Drive Lean, Six Sigma, data-driven continuous improvement, workflow optimization, facility layout planning, and KPI management.
Evaluate and implement additive manufacturing technologies, software, automation, post-processing equipment, and capital systems.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, or a related field.
10+ years of manufacturing experience, including 5+ years in additive manufacturing.
Experience scaling manufacturing operations in a high-growth environment and leading multifunctional manufacturing teams.
Strong knowledge of additive manufacturing processes, materials, machine operation, and post-processing.
Experience with ISO and AS quality systems, documentation, controls, audits, SOPs, and material traceability.
Experience with Lean and continuous-improvement tools such as 5S, Kaizen, value-stream mapping, and root-cause analysis.

Nice to have

Experience in aerospace, medical device, or other regulated industrial manufacturing.
Master’s degree, MBA, or technical graduate degree.
Six Sigma certification.
Experience with ERP or MES systems such as NetSuite, Odoo, Epicor, or Dynamics.
