Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada; hybrid schedule with 2–3 days per week in the Vancouver office.

Salary: 130,000–150,000 CAD per year, based on experience.

What you will do

• Lead the migration of the Slingshot GenAI prototype into a scalable, containerized cloud platform.
• Design distributed backend systems, RESTful APIs, asynchronous processing, queues, and event-driven architectures.
• Configure and optimize GPU-accelerated worker nodes for high-performance GenAI workloads.
• Build multi-tenant identity, access control, secure storage, and strict client data separation.
• Integrate subscriptions, usage metering, credits, invoicing, payments, and webhooks.
• Implement immutable audit trails for generated images and optimize integrations with Maya and Blender.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering.
• Expert proficiency in Python.
• Proven experience designing and optimizing RESTful APIs for high-load environments.
• Experience with Docker, container orchestration, Infrastructure as Code, scalable distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with identity and access management, monitoring, logging, metrics, and observability.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice to have

• Experience with image generation, generative AI workflows, ML infrastructure, model training pipelines, or inference services.
• Knowledge of PyTorch, Hugging Face, LoRA training, or GPU-based workloads.
• Experience with immutable ledgers, chain-of-title tracking, VFX, animation, or very large media assets.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes.
