Senior Manager – Discovery R&D (Biotech)

Location: Hybrid role based at the San Diego Headquarters; experienced candidates may be eligible to work remotely

Salary: $144K–$180K per year

What you will do

• Partner with Discovery R&D groups across computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biology, DMPK, analytical, toxicology, HTE, and lab operations.
• Lead annual planning, mid-year reforecasting, and quarterly budget-to-actual reviews.
• Develop financial models, budgets, and headcount plans covering groups, programs, and projects.
• Provide financial insights and scenario analyses to support senior leadership decisions.
• Build program budgets for business development scaling and partnership negotiations.
• Support month-end close activities, accruals, and scalable FP&A tools and processes.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of professional FP&A experience in biotech, pharma, or life sciences.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of R&D life cycles, preclinical drug discovery and development, and associated cost drivers.
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with ERP and financial planning tools is preferred.
• Strong communication, presentation, analytical, prioritization, and project coordination skills.
• Ability to build new processes and tools in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization.

Nice to have

• MBA or CPA.
• Experience in investment banking, public accounting, or management consulting.
• Experience with NetSuite, Adaptive Planning, Anaplan, or similar tools.
