Engineering Manager (Platform)

Location: Washington, DC; on-site. Limited to U.S. citizens due to U.S. government contract and security requirements. Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Salary: $197,000–$236,000 base; estimated total compensation of $289,000–$354,000 annually.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a cross-disciplinary platform team spanning frontend, backend, and infrastructure engineering.
• Own the technical roadmap and partner with the Product Manager on the product roadmap.
• Run projects end-to-end, including timelines, dependencies, blockers, risks, and tradeoffs.
• Guide platform architecture and technical decisions for coherent, secure, and scalable systems.
• Define shared capabilities and interfaces consumed by feature teams across the product.
• Hire, onboard, coach, and develop engineers while occasionally contributing to code reviews, implementation, or debugging.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3–5 years of engineering management experience with a record of high-quality delivery.
• Experience leading mixed-discipline teams and managing engineers across seniority levels.
• Technical breadth across modern web platforms and backend services, including architecture and interface contracts.
• Experience owning technical roadmaps and building platform or shared-service capabilities for engineering teams.
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Experience in defense, intelligence, national security, cybersecurity, networking, or data-intensive environments.
• Experience with Neo4j or graph-based data modeling.
• Experience with multi-tenancy, RBAC, audit logging, authentication, authorization, or SSO infrastructure.
• Experience with secure development practices for government or controlled environments.
