Senior Product Systems Engineer (Space)

Location: San Francisco, CA; on-site

Salary: $180,000–$230,000 per year in California

What you will do

• Define the architecture of Loft’s offering across ground and space segments.
• Allocate capabilities across hardware, software, flight, ground, Loft-owned, and external components.
• Shape ground processing chains, software tools, and customer-facing interfaces.
• Clarify interactions between onboard software, ground software, customer software, third-party software, and Loft’s stack.
• Maintain offering-level requirements, interfaces, architectural boundaries, CONOPS, ICDs, architecture notes, and trade studies.
• Coordinate architecture reviews and technical decisions across engineering, product, and operations teams.

Requirements

• Strong systems engineering experience with complex products spanning software and hardware.
• Experience connecting architecture definition, requirements structuring, and engineering implementation.
• Ability to structure complex systems into capabilities, interfaces, requirements, and responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of software-heavy systems, distributed components, APIs, processing chains, and integration patterns.
• Ability to coordinate cross-functional technical work across multiple teams without direct authority.
• Strong communication, documentation, and engineering judgment.

Nice to have

• Experience with space systems, ground segment tooling, onboard software, or customer-facing technical platforms.
• Experience defining integrations involving customer-owned or third-party software.
• Experience with architecture trade studies, capability allocation, and system-level interface management.
• Familiarity with CONOPS, ICDs, onboard data processing, and cloud-based ground software.
• Experience in international and cross-site engineering collaboration.
