Systems Design Engineer - Government (Satellite Communications)

Location: Carlsbad, California, United States. This is a US government role requiring US citizenship and the ability to obtain a United States Secret Clearance. Travel may be required up to 10%.

Salary: $120,500–$190,000 annually. For specific work locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $149,500–$224,500 annually.

What you will do

• Generate and manage requirements for government connectivity products.
• Define system-level architectures and detailed system and subsystem design solutions.
• Translate high-level product requirements into implementable designs in collaboration with Product Management, engineering leads, and customers.
• Iterate system designs with engineering development teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Ensure hardware and software platforms meet customer needs while preserving implementation flexibility.
• Maintain standards and compatibility across large systems of systems to support future scaling.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering design and requirements management.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience or understanding of data platforms, cloud-based application development, satellite communications, or networking.
• Solid understanding of full-stack development frameworks and system requirements covering performance, security, and functionality.
• Experience working across hardware and software product lifecycles and large systems of systems.
• US citizenship and the ability to obtain a United States Secret Clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Understanding of agile software development processes.
• Knowledge of Department of War CONOPs, users, and operating environments.
• Familiarity with data science, data processing, or AI/ML.
• Experience facilitating design tradeoff discussions with engineering and product management teams.
• Familiarity with Jama, MBSE processes, or Cameo.
