Principal Software Engineer (Cloud Data Platform)

Salary: $139,000–$249,260 starting base salary annually for U.S.-based roles.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for core platform subsystems and align architecture across teams and codebases.
• Translate ambiguous product and partner requirements into scalable platform capabilities and document architectural tradeoffs.
• Design and review distributed services, data models, asynchronous workflows, and high-throughput systems.
• Lead cross-team initiatives addressing reliability, performance, developer productivity, and systemic platform issues.
• Establish engineering standards and collaborate with product, architecture, DevOps, support, and senior leadership on platform strategy.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and architecture deep dives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience, including production distributed backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in a modern backend language and experience building libraries or frameworks for other engineering teams.
• Experience designing and operating asynchronous or workflow-based systems at production scale.
• Strong experience with a major public cloud platform, including serverless compute, NoSQL storage, object storage, and event-driven integration.
• Expertise in API design, data modeling, schema validation, versioning, backwards compatibility, and configuration-driven system behavior.

Nice to have

• Experience with ETL and data pipeline platforms, extensible plugin or connector frameworks, and developer experience tooling.
• Background in regulated or multi-region environments and strong data quality practices.
• Exposure to AI/ML-driven workflows such as embeddings, search relevance, or data enrichment.
