TL;DR
Engineer IV, Nuclear Fuel Systems (Systems Engineering/Nuclear Fuel): Leading lifecycle systems engineering for nuclear fuel systems with an accent on requirements management, functional and logical architecture, MBSE, PLM, and system integration. Focus on modeling system behavior, managing interfaces and technical risks, integrating and testing subsystems, and verifying complex products in a regulated nuclear environment.

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States; 4–5 days in office

Salary: $135,000–$170,000 per year

What you will do

  • Lead systems engineering activities across the full product lifecycle, from stakeholder and operational analysis through verification and validation.
  • Define, decompose, and manage requirements, functional models, logical architectures, physical product definitions, interfaces, and configuration changes.
  • Develop and maintain system behavior models using MBSE tools within PLM frameworks.
  • Lead design integration, testing, system verification, validation, and concept-of-operations development.
  • Identify technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and support cost, feasibility, and value engineering analyses.
  • Guide junior engineers and coordinate cross-disciplinary teams while documenting and communicating technical progress.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 12+ years in complex regulated industries is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Experience with systems engineering lifecycle processes, including ISO 15288, requirements management, system design, interface management, integration, testing, verification, and validation.
  • Experience with MBSE and PLM tools or methods, such as Teamcenter PLM, Cameo, Capella, Genesys, SysML, and DOORS.
  • Knowledge of systems modeling and simulation, configuration management, change control, and technical risk assessment.
  • Standard working hours are 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday through Friday; travel is approximately 10% as needed.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience with nuclear fuel technologies such as TRISO fuel, TRISO compacts, TRISO pebbles, UCO kernels, or PMBR systems.
  • Experience with BISON, FRAPCON, or equivalent nuclear fuel modeling software.
  • Leadership experience with cross-functional engineering teams in nuclear, aerospace, or defense environments.
