Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Controls (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Onsite 5 days a week at the Santa Clara, CA office

Salary: $180,000–$250,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, implement, integrate, and support real-time, mission-critical software for the autonomy stack.
• Develop control and optimization methods with research and control engineers.
• Prototype and validate controllers in simulation, including SiL and HiL environments.
• Participate in tuning, calibration, and in-vehicle testing of autonomous vehicles.
• Visualize and post-process test data to support system validation.
• Collaborate with planning, localization, drive-by-wire, and testing teams on secure and scalable software integration.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field, with a background in controls and optimization.
• Deep understanding of optimal control, model predictive control, and Kalman filtering.
• 5+ years of production-level experience with C/C++ and Matlab/Simulink, including high- and low-level coding.
• Experience applying optimization techniques and solvers to create robust, high-performance controllers.
• Strong knowledge of mathematics, linear algebra, vehicle dynamics modeling, and controls, plus 2+ years in the AV or ADAS industry.
• Experience with source control, containerization, Bash, ROS2, CAN, Python, and Linux.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with dSPACE and vehicle dynamics modeling toolchains.
• Experience with SiL/HiL setups and automotive simulation tools such as TruckSim and IPG TruckMaker.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and pipeline management.
