TL;DR
Staff Manufacturing Engineer (Robotics): Building and improving manufacturing systems for robotic products with an accent on manufacturability, precision assembly, tooling, and production stability. Focus on designing and validating fixtures, troubleshooting complex electromechanical assemblies, and driving continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts, United States. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Base salary: $116,000–$140,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with Hardware Engineering on DFM/DFA input to improve product manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Design, fabricate, and validate fixtures, tools, and jigs for mechanical assembly, precision alignment, and testing of motors and actuators.
  • Define assembly sequences, SOPs, work instructions, visual aids, and training materials for assembly technicians.
  • Support prototype builds, troubleshoot assembly issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Implement process controls and validate tooling and equipment for build quality, dimensional accuracy, and product performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to improve efficiency, cycle time, and yield.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process development, or advanced manufacturing, preferably with robotics, aerospace, or complex electromechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks or CATIA, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
  • Experience with engineering change orders, product and process documentation, BOMs, DFM/DFA, and production environments.
  • Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, machining, welding, grinding, bending, and custom tooling development.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills, including direct manufacturing floor support.

Nice to have

  • Experience with robotics development programs and New Product Introduction.
  • Experience with PLM systems such as Arena or Enovia and MES platforms such as Tulip or Delmia.
  • Experience transitioning research programs into products and designing multi-part assemblies for mass production.
  • Experience with quality systems, process control, 8D, and RCCA frameworks.
