TL;DR
Engineer II, Engineering Strategy & Operations (Nuclear Energy): Advancing small modular reactor development projects by removing roadblocks, coordinating technical and regulatory stakeholders, and distilling complex engineering information for executive decisions with an accent on nuclear safety, quality, and cross-functional execution. Focus on tracking project health, anticipating schedule risks, managing evolving requirements, and leading initiatives through influence rather than direct authority.
Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States; 4–5 days in office. Standard working hours are 8:00am–5:00pm Eastern Time, Monday–Friday. Travel is expected up to 10% as needed.
Salary: $90,000–$115,000 per year, base salary.

What you will do
- Identify, track, and remove roadblocks across HTGR reactor development projects.
- Coordinate with technical leads, Engineering, Procurement, and regulatory stakeholders to resolve cross-functional challenges.
- Distill complex technical information into concise, actionable intelligence for executive leadership.
- Establish communication channels between technical teams and align priorities and resources.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives through influence and relationship-building without direct authority.
- Create project documentation, decision matrices, status reports, performance metrics, and contingency plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, preferably mechanical or chemical engineering, or five years of equivalent experience.
- Typically, three years of experience in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in engineering project environments and with project management methodologies and tools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.
- Familiarity with NRC regulations, codes, and standards, including ASME, NQA-1, NEI, DOE/DOD standards, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME Sections III and VIII, ISO 9001, NEI 18-04, and 10 CFR 21.
- Ability to work onsite in the Gaithersburg office 4–5 days per week and during standard Eastern Time office hours.
