TL;DR
Principal Electrical Engineer, Power Systems (Spacecraft EPS): Owning the architecture, design, verification, and integration of spacecraft electrical power systems across multiple programs with an accent on solar arrays, batteries, power distribution, reliability, and radiation analysis. Focus on solving complex power-system tradeoffs, leading qualification campaigns, managing fault and worst-case circuit analyses, and supporting hardware through launch and on-orbit operation.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado, or Long Beach, California; candidates must be located near one of these locations.

Base salary: $200,000–$290,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for U.S. and allied space security.

What you will do

  • Own the technical direction and architecture of spacecraft electrical power systems, including solar arrays, batteries, power distribution units, and protection circuitry.
  • Lead trade studies, power-system budgets, peak power tracking strategies, fault management, and architecture definition across multiple programs.
  • Drive design, analysis, verification, qualification, and system-level integration of power hardware from concept through production, launch, and on-orbit operation.
  • Conduct derating, worst-case circuit, FMEA, radiation, and reliability analyses, defining mitigation strategies for space-environment risks.
  • Lead EMI/EMC, thermal-vacuum, and vibration qualification campaigns and represent power systems in design reviews with internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Set EPS design standards, mentor engineers, and coordinate interfaces with avionics, software, and harness subsystems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 12 years of professional experience designing electrical power systems, including significant spacecraft or high-reliability EPS experience.
  • Deep expertise in solar arrays, Li-ion and LiFePO4 batteries, charge control, DC/DC converters, peak power tracking, and power distribution.
  • Experience with spacecraft power modeling, analysis, fault management, system architecture ownership, and hardware delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of derating, worst-case circuit analysis, reliability methods, radiation effects, and mitigation techniques.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC testing, lab equipment, and HIL/SIL system integration and debugging.
  • Knowledge of power-supply stability analysis, compensation techniques, spacecraft charging mitigation, GEO or other demanding orbital regimes, and EGSE development.
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup or similarly dynamic environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Health, dental, vision, and HRA/HSA options.
  • Paid time off, paid holidays, and parental leave.
  • 401(k) and equity participation.
  • Collaborative environment focused on ambitious space-security technology and cross-disciplinary engineering.
