TL;DR
Avionics Integration Engineer (Aerospace): Defining, integrating, and verifying electrical and electronic subsystems for an aircraft autonomy system with an accent on avionics, power distribution, communications, and aircraft installation. Focus on integrating COTS/MOTS modules, debugging aircraft systems, preparing certification documentation, and supporting lab and flight-test integration with up to 50% travel.

Location: Boston, United States; hybrid workplace. The role may require up to 50% domestic and international travel, sometimes with short notice.

Salary: $115,000–$150,000 per year, base salary only.

What you will do

  • Define and mature electrical and electronic architecture for aircraft autonomy systems, including power distribution, communications, computers, electromechanical systems, and controls.
  • Integrate and verify COTS/MOTS electronic subsystems in aircraft and laboratory installations.
  • Guide laboratory and aircraft installation technicians during system integration.
  • Prepare electrical design and fabrication drawings, test plans, test reports, and aircraft installation and certification documents.
  • Support aircraft and system integration activities at domestic and international flight-test locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of systems-level electrical systems and integration design experience in aviation or aerospace.
  • Experience integrating and debugging COTS/MOTS modules, custom circuits, software, sensors, and human-machine or graphical user interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of ARINC 429, RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 interface protocols.
  • Experience with lab test equipment, system schematics, wiring diagrams, subsystem block diagrams, wire harnesses, and connector selection.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship or a visa transfer, now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Aircraft avionics, communications, power distribution, and power management experience.
  • Knowledge of RTCA DO-160, DO-178, DO-254, and MIL-STD-810 requirements.
  • Hands-on aircraft, laboratory, and field experience, including soldering, wiring, crimping, cable assembly, and hand-tool use.
  • Experience with electromechanical systems, EMI/EMC design, and qualification testing.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Altium, or KiCAD.
