Staff/Sr Staff Electrical Design Engineer (Silicon Photonics)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; flexible hybrid workplace model

Base salary: $186,000–$250,000 USD per year, plus equity and other rewards.

What you will do

• Define system-level hardware requirements with system architects and technical leads.
• Design power, memory, and interconnect circuits across analog and digital domains.
• Select electrical and optical components and develop conceptual designs, physical models, and system simulations.
• Oversee PCB layouts, define electrical constraints, and ensure manufacturability, yield, and robustness.
• Qualify and validate chip and system electrical properties through laboratory experimentation and board testing.
• Lead integration across mechanical, software, IC, packaging, manufacturing, component vendors, and supply partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years of system-level electrical design experience, including taking multiple products from concept to production.
• Proficiency with Cadence, Mentor, or Altium schematic design tools; Altium is preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of VRMs, high-speed SERDES, CPUs, PCIe, Ethernet, QSPI, I3C, and I2C.
• 5+ years of laboratory experimentation, non-intrusive circuit debugging, and cross-functional integration leadership.
• Experience with thermal solutions, PLM tools, BOM management, and ECO management.

Nice to have

• Electrical systems experience in networking or similar industries.
• Experience with integrated circuit layout and carrier PCBA design.
• Knowledge of manufacturing and design processes and Systems Engineering principles.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
