Senior Electrical Engineer (Space): Designing and validating electronics for next-generation quantum sensors supporting Low Earth Orbit missions with an accent on FPGA, MCU, mixed-signal, RF, and radiation-tolerant architectures. Focus on leading end-to-end PCB development, designing for LEO radiation and thermal conditions, and building environmental test plans to verify reliability and mission lifetime.

Location: Onsite in Pleasanton, California, United States. Travel up to 5% domestically or internationally. Applicants must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship or national status, permanent residency, or qualifying refugee or asylee status.

Salary: $142,113–$186,063 per year, plus potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops integrated quantum computing, networking, sensing, and security technologies; Vector Atomic, an hirify.global company, focuses on quantum systems for navigation, timing, geophysical exploration, and telecommunications.

What you will do

  • Lead electrical architecture for quantum sensors designed for Low Earth Orbit missions, balancing size, weight, power, and cost.
  • Own end-to-end PCB development, including requirements, schematics, layout, fabrication coordination, and performance verification.
  • Translate system requirements into power, analog, mixed-signal, FPGA, MCU, and RF electronics in collaboration with physics, mechanical, software, firmware, RTL, and optical specialists.
  • Design circuits and radiation-tolerant techniques for LEO radiation and thermal environments.
  • Support system integration, environmental testing, troubleshooting, and instrument-level validation.
  • Estimate electronics lifetime and FIT rates and characterize designs with laboratory test equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 6+ years of experience, or a master’s degree with 3+ years.
  • At least 3 years of electronics design experience for space applications, preferably LEO.
  • Experience with power, analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed PCB design for satellite or flight systems.
  • Knowledge of radiation effects including TID and SEE, mitigation strategies, and radiation-qualified component selection.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, power supplies, and related laboratory equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work across hardware, firmware, RTL, physics, mechanical, software, and optical teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience with space-qualified microprocessors or FPGA families.
  • Exposure to FPGA RTL, TMR, SEU handling, radiation-mitigation algorithms, or digital signal processing.
  • Circuit simulation experience with tools such as LTSpice.
  • Experience in AS9100-compliant environments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Individual-contributor role with significant technical ownership from concept through on-orbit deployment.
  • Collaborative, hands-on environment emphasizing teamwork, open discourse, curiosity, and diverse perspectives.
  • Platinum-level family medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • FSA options, employer 401(k) contributions, paid parental leave, 20 days of paid time off, and 11 paid holidays.
  • Fully stocked kitchen and additional benefits including legal insurance and a home technology stipend.
