TL;DR
Staff Flight Software Engineer (Spacecraft) (C/C++, Python, RTOS): Developing and testing flight software for spacecraft computers, integrating GNC algorithms, and building device drivers and communication libraries with an accent on safety-critical embedded systems and space missions. Focus on designing command and telemetry databases, spacecraft simulators, command sequencing, and hardware communication protocols.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado or Long Beach, California

Base salary: $165,000–$290,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test flight software for spacecraft computers and processing units.
  • Integrate complex guidance, navigation, and control algorithms with flight software.
  • Define and maintain command and telemetry databases for ground and on-orbit testing and missions.
  • Collaborate with the ground command-and-control software team on spacecraft operations.
  • Develop command scripting, spacecraft sequencing, subsystem model simulators, device drivers, and communications protocol libraries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field, with 6+ years of low-level firmware architecture, design, and development experience.
  • Experience developing low-level device drivers and safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with embedded RTOS, such as RTLinux or Azure RTOS.
  • Knowledge of protocols including Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS422, and RS485.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS/SCI clearance and meet U.S. Government ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical field and 12+ years of flight software experience for space applications.
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration and delivery, embedded Linux, UDP, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with embedded systems tools, microcontrollers, application processors, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers.
  • Application experience in robotics, automation, motor control, or sensor fusion.
