Senior Principal Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; based out of the headquarters

Salary: $198,000–$297,000 USD base pay annually

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end software architecture for spacecraft flight and ground systems, prioritizing scalability, reliability, security, and mission success.
• Develop embedded flight software for RTOS platforms such as VxWorks and embedded Linux, including drivers for spacecraft sensors and actuators.
• Architect and deploy web-based ground software platforms that integrate flight and ground systems for spacecraft operations.
• Develop unit tests within CI frameworks and collaborate on hardware-in-the-loop testing to validate integrated software and hardware.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineering teams while aligning software systems with mission requirements.
• Support mission-critical on-orbit operations and software performance in harsh environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
• 15+ years of professional software development experience, including embedded and ground software.
• Expertise architecting scalable and reliable software systems for aerospace or defense applications.
• Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded development and Python for testing; experience with DIO and AIO.
• Experience integrating hardware, implementing ICDs, debugging, and deriving flight software architecture from electrical designs, ICD lists, or schematics.
• U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in aerospace engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• Experience with CAN/CAN-FD, SpaceWire, UDP/TCP, CCSDS standards, autonomous vehicles, or harsh-environment systems.
• Experience with microservices, distributed systems, FastAPI, full-stack development, databases, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and OAuth.
• Experience leading teams and coordinating planning and staffing with program management.
