Director of Data Science (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, hybrid

Annual base salary: $225,000–$250,000, plus a 10% annual bonus opportunity.

What you will do

• Manage, mentor, and grow a data science team focused on high-impact business problems.
• Guide the development of quantitative models in Python using industry-standard techniques.
• Partner with product, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to create a data science roadmap and backlog.
• Lead quarterly planning and align modeling initiatives with product priorities.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted development and agentic workflows with appropriate review, validation, privacy, and quality standards.
• Work with the Modeling Engineer to improve infrastructure for model research, development, and deployment.

Requirements

• 2+ years of data science management experience leading a team of more than three people.
• 5+ years of overall modeling or data science experience and 2+ years at a consumer product company.
• Deep technical expertise in SQL and Python, plus experience with analytics and machine learning tools such as dbt, Airflow, Spark, and MLflow.
• Strong communication skills for translating complex analysis into actionable insights for commercial and executive stakeholders.
• Experience with modern AI-assisted coding and agentic tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or OpenAI Codex.
• A Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field is strongly preferred.

• Experience applying predictive modeling to credit risk, churn prediction, loss forecasting, or revenue forecasting.
