Data Scientist (AI)

Location: US-Remote; Columbus; New York

Salary: $148K–$184K annually, plus equity.

hirify.global Health is rebuilding the clinical research ecosystem through infrastructure and clinical data products that improve trial efficiency and expand access to potentially life-saving therapies.

What you will do

• Design and run evaluations of production LLM pipelines, including accuracy and quality metrics for real clinical tasks.
• Evaluate the Patient Trial Evaluation pipeline, prompts, and trial-matching logic to identify reporting failures and their causes.
• Measure retrieval quality and final-output effectiveness in RAG systems, and inform cost/quality tradeoffs across prompts, models, and trials.
• Build and maintain production-grade SQL and dbt data models on Databricks for reliable analytics and reporting.
• Develop a shared semantic layer and strengthen governance through documentation, testing, versioning, and metric ownership.
• Translate business and clinical questions into well-defined data products and collaborate with AI Engineering and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in data science, statistics, biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, epidemiology, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in data science, analytics engineering, ML, or another highly analytical role in life sciences, biotech, healthcare, or a related industry.
• Hands-on experience evaluating LLM or NLP systems, including accuracy metrics, error analysis, RAG or retrieval quality, or prompt evaluation.
• Strong SQL skills and experience building production data models with dbt or a comparable transformation framework.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python, plus experience with Databricks and BI or analytics tools such as Hex.
• Strong communication, data science, governance, reproducibility, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with comfort working in an ambiguous startup environment.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative field.
• Experience with semantic layers, production LLM workflows, and collaboration with ML or AI engineering teams.
• Clinical data or oncology experience and familiarity with clinical trials or research operations.
• Advanced statistical knowledge, including regression, classification, hypothesis testing, causal inference, or Bayesian methods.
• PySpark experience, mentoring data scientists, or leading cross-functional projects.
