Senior Data Scientist, Risk (Fintech)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; hybrid work with required in-office collaboration

Salary: $185,000–$225,000 base salary per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Lead strategic data science initiatives that improve risk management, underwriting, fraud prevention, and portfolio performance.
• Develop, validate, deploy, and monitor production machine learning models and pipelines.
• Design and own A/B testing frameworks, experimentation strategies, cohort analyses, and causal inference studies.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, Risk, and Finance to turn business requirements into scalable analytical solutions.
• Present complex insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
• Mentor junior data scientists and analysts, conduct code reviews, and establish data science best practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation, modeling, and automation.
• Experience building production-ready machine learning models and pipelines.
• Strong statistical knowledge and experience with A/B testing, cohort analysis, causal inference, and experimental design.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex insights clearly.
• Experience in risk, growth or marketing, or product analytics is preferred; comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment is expected.
