Founding Data Engineer (Fintech)

What you will do

• Set the warehouse or lakehouse direction and build the foundational data lake and layered architecture.
• Design and operate reliable batch and streaming pipelines using CDC, ELT, and real-time processing where appropriate.
• Define canonical payments datasets, data models, semantics, and data contracts.
• Own data quality, observability, integrity checks, testing, and monitoring for sensitive financial data.
• Implement role-based access, masking, lineage, auditability, and other controls for a regulated environment.
• Build feature pipelines and a trustworthy data foundation for analytics, AI, and ML workloads while establishing data engineering practices, tooling, and CI/CD.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building production data systems and owning architecture decisions through production.
• Expert SQL and strong Python skills.
• Deep experience with a modern warehouse or lakehouse ecosystem, such as Snowflake with dbt and Fivetran or Databricks with Spark, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog.
• Strong data modeling experience with dimensional, normalized, or Data Vault approaches.
• Experience with pipeline orchestration such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect; large-scale processing; and a major cloud platform including AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience handling sensitive or regulated data, including access controls, encryption, governance, security, and cost management.

Nice to have

• Payments, fintech, or other regulated-domain experience, including PCI DSS and tokenization or vaulting patterns.
• Streaming infrastructure experience with Kafka, Kinesis, or Flink.
• Data governance, lineage, and observability tooling experience.
• Experience supporting ML/AI workloads, including feature stores, training or inference pipelines, or MLflow.
• Interest in growing into people leadership as the function scales.
