Harness Design Engineer (Nuclear Energy)

Location: Los Angeles, United States; hands-on work on the shop floor is required.

Salary: $135,000–$185,000 per year plus equity. Harnessing Engineer II: $135,000–$160,000; Senior Harnessing Engineer: $150,000–$185,000.

What you will do

• Design and route interface and internal harnesses in 3D CAD, managing bend radii, strain relief, clearances, service loops, and connector accessibility.
• Develop and release wiring diagrams, wire lists, from-to charts, pinout tables, splice topologies, and shielding and grounding schemes.
• Select wires, connectors, contacts, backshells, sealing systems, and crimp tooling for testbed and safety-class applications.
• Define and improve design review, ECO, PLM, BOM, and release processes, including automation and CAD-tool integrations.
• Support supplier qualification, RFQs, build-package handoff, first-article inspection, deviations, and nonconformance resolution.
• Direct in-house harness builds, technician training, crimp certification, workmanship standards, inspections, and electrical testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience designing production wire harnesses and cable assemblies from schematic through released build package.
• Experience with a dedicated harness CAD tool such as Zuken E3.series, Siemens Capital, Mentor VeSys, SolidWorks Electrical, CATIA Electrical, or Rapid Harness.
• Knowledge of wire derating, connector and termination selection, crimp tooling, IPC/WHMA-A-620, workmanship, continuity, insulation resistance, and hipot testing.
• Experience releasing hardware under a formal quality program such as NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, AS9100, or comparable standards.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. government authorizations under export regulations.

Nice to have

• Experience with safety-class hardware, commercial grade dedication, 10 CFR 21, IEEE 323, IEEE 383, IEEE 384, SAE AS50881, or NASA-STD-8739.4.
• High-voltage or high-current distribution harnessing and cabinet or panel wiring experience.
• Harness CAD tool administration, design release process development, ERP/MRP systems, EMI/EMC-aware design, or Python scripting.
• Experience establishing harness design standards and in-house build capability in a fast-moving environment.
