Salary: $74,000–$114,000 annually

What you will do
- Own a vehicle mechanism subsystem from concept through design, analysis, testing, and flight.
- Design and optimize separation systems, landing gear, aerodynamic control surfaces, or electromechanical actuation systems.
- Perform structural, kinematic, FEA, hand-calculation, and tolerance-stack-up analyses.
- Define qualification and acceptance test campaigns, including procedures, criteria, and anomaly dispositions.
- Create engineering drawings, CAD models, and release documentation while working directly with manufacturing.
- Troubleshoot hardware anomalies, implement design improvements, and support launch operations, post-flight inspection, and refurbishment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience designing mechanisms or mechanical systems for flight vehicles or high-performance hardware; internships, co-ops, competition, and research experience count.
- Experience taking a mechanical design through physical hardware build, assembly, and testing.
- Strong fundamentals in structural mechanics, kinematics, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo, including engineering drawings using ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards; working knowledge of ANSYS, Nastran, or Abaqus.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or a lawfully admitted refugee or asylee, in accordance with ITAR requirements.
Nice to have
- 3+ years of experience designing mechanisms or mechanical systems for flight vehicles or high-performance hardware.
- Experience with separation systems, landing gear, aerodynamic control surfaces, or flight electromechanical actuators.
- Hands-on prototyping, machining, reusable vehicle design, or student build-team experience.
- Experience in a fast-moving hardware startup or early-stage program.
