TL;DR

What you will do

  • Set up, program, operate, and maintain multi-axis CNC mills and lathes, laser cutters, and high-precision welding equipment.
  • Develop, edit, and optimize G-code and CAM programs for efficient, repeatable fabrication of nuclear-grade components.
  • Perform high-precision quality control using CMMs, gauges, and GD&T standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers and leadership on urgent fabrication priorities, design for manufacturability, and prototype development.
  • Design and implement fixtures, tooling, and manufacturing aids for scalable assembly and testing.
  • Manage shop operations, preventive maintenance, safety practices, equipment troubleshooting, and repair documentation.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on mechanical fabrication and precision machining experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Advanced proficiency in CNC programming, G-code, CAM software, shop mathematics, and blueprint reading with GD&T.
  • Advanced CAD/CAM proficiency.
  • Ability to turn concepts into tested prototypes quickly and manage complex fabrication projects with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work on-site in Austin, Texas.

Nice to have

  • Formal apprenticeship or machinist certification.
  • Experience with material science, machinability, and tool selection for specialized alloys.
  • Specialized TIG/MIG welding knowledge.
  • Previous experience as a machine shop supervisor or lead CNC machinist.
